Two-time Grand Slam tennis champion Simona Halep left the sport’s highest court on Friday, unsure when she would know whether she had won her appeal against a four-year doping ban.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland: Two-time Grand Slam tennis champion Simona Halep left the sport’s highest court on Friday unsure when she would know whether she had won her appeal against a four-year doping ban.

The former world number one spent almost three full days being heard at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in front of three judges who are now considering their verdict.

“No specific date has been announced regarding the notification of the final decision,” the court said. Judgments usually take at least a few weeks.

Halep, who will turn 35 before the challenged ban expires in October 2026, left court with her American lawyer Howard Jacobs.

“Well, the hearing was long and I can say that I had the opportunity to show my defense,” said the Romanian star. “I truly believe the truth will come out.”

Halep was banned by the International Tennis Integrity Agency last year after testing positive for roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. Investigators later discovered suspected irregularities in her biological passport that may have revealed abnormal blood levels taken over several years.

Roxadustat can help produce more of the natural hormone erythropoietin, or EPO, which has long been a doping product favored by endurance athletes.

Halep denies wrongdoing and blames it on contaminated nutritional supplements. Athletes must prove the source of the infection to prove that they were not guilty of doping.

“I can’t speak anymore, so I have to wait (for) the decision and then I can give more information,” she said outside the court.

Halep won Wimbledon in 2019, beating 23-time major champion Serena Williams in the final, and the 2018 French Open.
