New Delhi: The budget session of Parliament started with the speech of President Draupadi Murmu.

President Draupadi Murmu arrived at the Parliament from the President’s House surrounded by cavalry and was welcomed by Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

It is customary for the President to address the joint session of the Houses of Parliament on the first day of the first session of the year. Accordingly, President Draupadi Murmu is addressing the joint meeting of both houses.

After that the economic report for the current financial year 2022-23 will be tabled in Parliament. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the much-awaited financial report for the financial year 2023-24 in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

With polling for 9 state assemblies this year and Lok Sabha polls next year, the parliamentary budget session has begun.

This will be the last full-time budget presented by the current BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As the Lok Sabha elections will be held next year, the central government will present only the interim budget in the next year.
