New Delhi: The central government has asked the power companies to ensure that there is no power cut during the summer season. A statement from the Ministry of Electricity has said that the Minister of Electricity has asked the electricity companies to ensure that there is no power cut during the hot season. Union Minister RK Singh has also asked all stakeholders to closely monitor the situation and take steps in advance to meet the power demand in the coming months.

Union Power Minister RK Singh has asked power sector companies to ensure that load-shedding does not take place. Senior officials of Railway, Coal and Electricity Ministries were present in this meeting. The meeting discussed various aspects to meet the increasing demand of electricity in the coming months especially during April 2023 and May 2023.

Gas based power plants will be used to meet the increasing demand.

There will be no power cut in summer

In this meeting, the Union Minister instructed all the organizations that maintenance of coal based power plants should be done in advance, so that maintenance is not required during power shortage. All imported coal-fired plants have been instructed to start working at full capacity from March 16, 2023 under Section-11. Adequate stock of coal will be made available in coal based plants.

Government is in action regarding electricity consumption

In this meeting it was decided that gas based power plants will be used to meet the increasing demand. The ministry directed NTPC to commission its 5,000 MW gas-fired power plant in April-May lean season. Apart from this, other entities will also utilize additional gas-based power capacity of 4,000 MW. So that the availability is maintained during the summer season.

These plants will become operational this month

An additional capacity of 2,920 MW will be made available through new coal-fired plants in the coming days. This plant will be operational this month itself. In addition two plants (2X110 MW) at Barauni will be made available during lean periods as per the directives of the Ministry.

During the meeting, the Union Power Minister asked the power companies to ensure that there is no load-shedding during the summer months. Singh asked all stakeholders to monitor the situation and take proactive measures to meet the power demand in the coming months.

Let us tell you that as per the Central Electricity Authority’s assessment, the peak electricity demand will reach 229 GW in April 2023. At this time the demand for electricity is highest in the country. Demand drops when the monsoon begins in the southern part of the country and covers the entire country in the next three to four months. Union Power Minister RK Singh on March 7 held a review meeting with senior officials of the Ministries of Power, Coal and Railways to discuss various aspects, including meeting the high demand for electricity in the upcoming season.
