The Central Government announces the ‘Swachh Sarvekshan Awards’ every year. In this order, Indore in Madhya Pradesh has been selected as the cleanest city for the sixth time in a row in the newly released list. Chhattisgarh was second while Maharashtra was third. President Draupadi Murmu presented the awards to the winners on Saturday at a function attended by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and others. Indore and Surat have retained the top positions in the big cities category this year, while Vijayawada has lost the third position to Navi Mumbai. In the category of cities with less than one lakh population, Panchgani in Maharashtra stands first. Patan (NP) in Chhattisgarh and Karhad in Maharashtra are next. Haridwar has been selected as the cleanest Ganga city in the category of population above 1 lakh. Varanasi and Rishikesh are next. PTI BUN Bijnor ranks first among Ganga towns with population less than one lakh. Then there are Kannauj and Garhmukteshwar respectively.

In the survey.. Maharashtra’s Deolali was selected as the cleanest cantonment board in the country. The 7th edition of Swachh Sarvekshan was conducted to study the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), to rank urban local bodies (ULBs) on various hygiene and sanitation parameters. The survey has grown from an estimated 73 cities in 2016 to cover 4,354 cities this year. Among the states with less than 100 urban local bodies, according to the survey results.. Tripura stood first.
