The second phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to be postponed till March.

According to sources, PTI has approached the Election Commission to postpone the second phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 16. The Election Commission has started consultations on postponing the elections.

Due to weather conditions, the second round of local government elections is likely to be held in March.

Provincial Minister Shaukat Yousafzai has said that the second phase of elections includes the hilly areas of Malakand and Hazara. In December and January, snow falls in these areas and due to cold weather, most of the population of these areas turn to the plains.

According to the provincial minister, holding elections in these circumstances would deprive a large section of the population of the right to vote. The PTI Malakand organization has contacted the Election Commission and requested for postponement of the election but the Election Commission has reserved its decision.

He said that if the elections were postponed till March then all the people would get a chance to exercise their right to vote.
