The Supreme Tuesday agreed to list next week the Unnao rape victim’s plea seeking transfer of a criminal case filed by the father of an accused in a sexual assault case from a trial court in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi.

Advocate Vrinda Grover, Justice J. Of. Maheshwari and Justice Hima Kohli along with Chief Justice (CJI) N. Mentioned the matter before a bench headed by V. Ramana and sought urgent hearing of his fresh plea. After hearing the arguments, the bench said, the matter is listed next week.

The petition has cited genuine risk to the life and personal safety of the petitioner. It has been said that there is danger to his life if he is forced to face criminal trial in Unnao district.

It also claimed that counter-judicial proceedings have been initiated against the victim in the Unnao court.

A non-bailable warrant was issued by a local court in Unnao against the victim on a criminal complaint of alleged cheating and forgery, which was filed by the father of one of the accused, Shubham Singh.

In December 2019, a Delhi court sentenced expelled former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar to life imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao in 2017 when she was a minor. Sengar’s appeal against the conviction and life sentence is pending in the Delhi High Court. The High Court had recently sought a response from the CBI.
