Election Commission: The Supreme Court bench has issued a verdict regarding the appointment of election commissioners and chief election commissioner (CEC). It has been said that the appointments of these members should be done by a committee. The Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will be members of this committee, it said.
A five-member bench of the Supreme Court passed the order. The Supreme Court has asked that the process of appointment of Election Commission officials should be more transparent. It suggested that the appointment process should be at the same level as the appointment of the CBI chief.
