Trampling in Satsang, 27 dead, including women and children, death toll expected to rise

At least 27 people have been killed in a stampede during a religious ceremony in Phularai village, Sikandarao police station in Hathras, with scores of injuries reported and the death toll expected to rise.

New Delhi: The news of the major accident was revealed on Tuesday (July 2) during a journey from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. As per media reports, around 27 people were killed in a stampede at a Satsang held in Phoolarai village, Sikanderrao Police Station.

Senior Superintendent of Police Etah Rakesh Pratap Singh said there was a commotion during a religious ceremony in Mughalgarhi village in Hathras district, The New Indian Express reported.

He added that so far 27 dead bodies have arrived at Eta Hospital, including 23 women, three children and one man. The injured have not yet arrived at the hospital and are under further investigation. All 27 bodies have been identified.

Meanwhile, Dr Umesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Etah, also confirmed the arrival of 27 dead bodies at the hospital.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences over the accident. The Prime Minister was informed of the incident and ordered the authorities to take immediate action to provide relief and proper treatment to the injured.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjan Kharge also expressed his condolences over the accident and offered his sympathies to the families of the deceased. He appealed to the government and the administration not to neglect the treatment of the injured and to provide immediate compensation to the victims.

It is noteworthy that several disturbing videos related to the incident are going viral on social media. In these videos, several people are seen unconscious outside the hospital while several injured people are loaded onto buses and taken to the district hospital. The death toll is expected to rise.
