The farmers had organized a padyatra from Amravati to Tirupati in 2021 to garner public support for their demands. He had started the Maha Padyatra from Amaravati to Arasavalli on September 12 last year. It was scheduled to end at Arasavalli on 12 November. However, the organizers stopped it midway alleging that the YSRCP government was creating hurdles in their long march.

On March 3, 2022, the Andhra Pradesh High Court directed the state government to develop Amaravati as the state capital within six months. The verdict was delivered by a three-judge bench on 75 petitions by Amaravati farmers and others challenging the government’s move on the three capitals.

However, the state government filed an appeal in the Supreme Court. In November last year, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order saying the court cannot act like a town planner or engineer.
