Congress MP in-charge Randeep Surjewala said on Wednesday that Home Minister Amit Shah lacks knowledge of the Constitution. The women’s reservation bill brought earlier by Congress has not lapsed. While discussing with the media in PCC, Surjewala said that Congress had earlier brought the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha, which was passed in the Rajya Sabha. It was not passed in the Lok Sabha due to lack of numbers.
On the statement of the Home Minister that the bill has lapsed, he said that bills do not lapse, it is still live. He said that Congress is in principle in favor of the Women’s Reservation Bill. On BJP implementing the bill from 2026, Surjewala said that it is like putting Khichdi on the stove and asking to wait for 5 years to eat it. There is no point in giving reservation after delimitation. If you want to give, then give directly.
He said that he is supporting the demand for reservation of OBC women on the statement of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and not on the statement of his elder sister (Uma Bharti). Regarding the beating of a tribal man with shoes by a BJP leader in Shahdol and other matters, Congress in-charge Randeep Surjewala said that the Chief Minister should resign immediately. During his 18 years of tenure, tribals have been victims of brutality. Our party will bring a tribal welfare charter for the tribals.
