Wheat import scandal, $1.5 billion lost due to bureaucratic bad decisions

The private sector is rewarded for importing wheat. Bad bureaucratic decisions cost the country’s Ministry of Finance between $1 and $1.5 billion.

According to sources, the National Food Security Authority has requested permission to import 3.5 million tonnes of wheat. Despite the abundance of wheat, the ECC has approved the import of wheat.
